About Odisha Videsh Siksha Bruti Scheme 

The “Odisha Videsh Siksha Bruti Scheme” is a category-specific state-oriented scholarship scheme introduced by the Government of Odisha for all the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) who are interested in fulfilling the dream to pursue higher studies in foreign universities and institutions. Under this scheme, eligible students will be granted financial aid that helps them to cover their educational expenses without any type of financial hurdles abroad. This scheme is only applicable for those SC and ST background students whose combined parental income is less than Rs 12 lakh. The Videsh Shiksha Bruti is a yearly basis scholarship scheme that selects a total of 50 students each year to be awarded the scholarship.

Objective of Odisha Videsh Siksha Bruti Scheme 

The main objective of this scheme is to provide yearly financial support in the form of a scholarship to those students who belong to SC, ST families. This scheme was formally Schema, was inaugurated by Higher Education Minister Suryavanshi Suraj and will be implemented from the 2025-26 academic year.

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible, you need to meet the following eligibility criteria’s these are as follows:-

  • Applicant must be a permanent resident of Odisha.
  • Applicant must belong to any of the scheduled caste or scheduled tribe categories.
  • Applicant must be a student who has secured admission into postgraduate or PhD programs in the top 200 QS ranking foreign universities/institutions.
  • Annual income of the appliance student family must be at are 12 lakh per annum from all sources.

  • Under this scheme, each selected student will receive a scholarship of up to Rs 25 lakh per year to support their studies.

Salient Features 

  • Scholarship Aid:- Under this scheme, selected students will receive a scholarship aid of up to Rs 25 lakh to support their education. 
  • Pursue Higher Education:- This scheme allows eligible students to pursue PG and PhD programs in top global Universities. 
  • Application Period:- Under this, applications will be invited twice a year-in July-August and December-January. 
  • Total Students Selected:- Under this, each year, 50 students will be selected for the scholarship.
  • Student Distribution:- Of these 10 (4 PG & 6 PhD), will be from engineering and technical education, 10 (four PG and six PhD) from Medical, agriculture, architecture, and other technical streams, and 30 (10 PG and 20 PhD) from higher education.
  • Issue Appointment Letter:- The department also issued appointment letters to 34 candidates in Group C and D posts across edit colleges under rehabilitation assistance.
  • Conduct Academic Performance Audits:- The event also saw a key milestone with the Odisha state Higher Education Council receiving the copyright to conduct academic performance audits of higher educational institutions across the state.
  • Make First State:- This move will enable OSHEC, two SSN in hands academy standards, making Orissa the first state to adopt such a system in the country.
  • Target Categories:- This scheme only supports meritorious students from the Scheduled Caste and the Scheduled Tribe categories.
