On 1st January 2026, the chief minister of Assam Mr Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced the Mukhyamantri Nijut Babu Aasoni Scheme for the male students of the state. Under this scheme, the state government will provide Rs. 10,000/- annually as financial Assistance. This amount will be transferred through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Method. This scheme is started by the Higher Education Department for the academic year 2025–26. The scheme will help students who are studying in UG 1st Year and PG 1st Year. It is only for students studying in government and provincialised colleges of Assam.
Objective of Mukhyamantri Nijut Babu Aasoni
The purpose of the Assam Babu Asoni Scheme 2026 is to help male students who face financial difficulties. It encourages them to take admission in higher education courses. The scheme supports students so they do not leave their studies due to financial problems. It helps increase the participation of boys in UG and PG education. The scheme also promotes equal learning opportunities for all. It supports the goal of inclusive and balanced education in Assam.

Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must be a male student.
- He must be a permanent resident of Assam.
- Family annual income should be below ₹4 lakh.
- The student must be enrolled in UG 1st Year or PG 1st Year.
- Admission should be in a government or provincialised college only.
- The student must be a regular student, not from distance mode.
- Students from private or self-financed colleges are not eligible.
- Married male students in UG courses cannot apply.
- UG students receiving Banikanta Kakati Merit Award are not eligible.
- PG students getting benefits under CM’s Jibon Prerana Scheme are not eligible.
- The student must follow academic and disciplinary rules of the institution.

Application Process
- The Assam government has released official application forms for the Babu Asoni scheme.

- Separate forms are available for UG students and PG students.
- These forms are given free of cost by the college administration.
- The Principal or Registrar will introduce the scheme in the institution and share the forms with students.
- Colleges will appoint one or two Nodal Teachers to help with the application process.
- Eligible students should collect the form from the college office.
- Students must fill out the form with personal details, academic details, and bank account information.
- Attach all required documents to the filled form.
- Submit the completed form to the college office.
- The college will check and verify the information in the form.
- After verification, the college will upload the student data on the SAMARTH portal for digital processing.
- Higher Education Department officials will review the submitted details.
- Once approved, eligible students will start receiving the monthly financial assistance.
